BLISTERS ON THE FOOT – WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO TREAT THEM?
A blister on the foot, a painful abrasion, or rather a nuisance that can quickly befall us when we expose our sensitive winter feet to running and hiking shoes, unlike the warm days that invite us to more outdoor activity.
Most blisters on the foot are caused by simple friction between the skin and the sock or shoe, caused by repetitive movements while walking or running. The epidermis separates from the underlying layers of skin and a blister forms, a raised skin under which there is fluid to relieve further pressure and prevent infection. If the skin is moist, blisters form more quickly, more often in spring and summer when our feet and hands sweat.
SHOULD I PUNCTURE A BLISTER ON MY FOOT?
Do not puncture a blister on the foot, as the skin is the best protection against infection. The fluid in the blister will be resorbed and the overlying skin will dry and peel.
If the blister is very painful and prevents normal walking and activity, puncture it with a sterile needle and disinfect the wound well with OXILVER® Skin Solution, an antiseptic skin solution. The skin covering the blister should be removed after a few days with well-disinfected scissors. The blister patch protects the wound from dirt and prevents infection.
BLISTERS ON THE FOOT - HOW TO MAKE SURE THEY HEAL QUICKLY?
- Disinfect the blister site with OXILVER® Skin Solution to prevent possible infection. This cleanses and oxygenates the skin. When there is a lack of oxygen in the tissues, wound healing is also slowed down. Oxygen is essential for the formation of new young tissues as well as for infection control.
- OXILVER® Skin Gel can be applied to the cleansed blister to provide intense skin hydration and scar-free healing. The added Hyaluronic Acid and Aloe Vera ensure adequate hydration and elasticity, which are necessary for accelerated skin renewal. The addition of silver in ionic form enhances the antimicrobial action.
- A patch is applied to further mechanically prevent infection and reduce friction.
OXILVER® Skin solution is a versatile product and is indispensable for hikers, runners, and other recreational and professional athletes. In addition to foot blister care, it can also be used for CHICKEN EYE, SCARES, INSECT SPIKES and to prevent and inhibit FUNGAL INFECTIONS.
